Conclusion

Cooler Master’s Silent Pro Gold M certainly ticks all the right boxes for any gamer/enthusiast looking to build a rig with a couple of mid range graphics such as 5770′s, or a single high-end card like the 5970. The Pro Gold demonstrates how a power supply should operate at idle or under load, with great efficiency over a broad range of loads, as well as a minimal standby power draw.

When it was released at the start of the month if I remember correctly it was the only 600W gold rated PSU on the market, which is a great achievement by the team at Coolermaster, especially as it lives up to it’s claims of being a stellar unit worthy of appraisal.

I’m glad to see Cooler Master didn’t adopt an over-the-top approach to designing the PSU, in fact it’s gone back to the grass roots of minimalism and added a few touches of style with the gold and white lettering, and the gold fan grill. Touches I’m sure the more discerning enthusiast will appreciate no doubt.

Although the Cooler Master didn’t record the lowest Delta Temperature it was on power with the Corsair HX 620W, marginally beaten by the Corsair HX 650W. The fan on the HX 650W did spin up considerably more than the other two units, so that could account for the temperature difference. Cooler Master has created patented heat transfer technology (HTT) which features an L shaped heatsink to improve operating temperatures inside the power supply, allowing the use of slower RPM fans to cool the unit. Out of the three PSUs tested the Cooler Master was the quietest throughout testing, at least to my ear, but none of the units were excessively loud under load.

The bottom line is those looking for a solid PSU around the 600W mark should place the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold at the top of their list. Obviously search out other units and compare the performance of each, but the results have shown how well Cooler Master’s first 600W 80 plus gold rated PSU has performed and shows that Cooler Master aren’t just around to make great cases and heatsinks, but want a slice of the PSU cake also.
