Fractal Design Define R2 Titanium Chassis Review

February 15, 2010

First of all this case has been designed with gamers and enthusiasts in mind. The first sign of this is the large hole in the top of the motherboard tray which is there to allow quick and easy access to the  backplates which are commonplace on many of today’s high-end air and water cooling heatsinks and blocks. For those that swap over coolers on a regular basis this is a great feature as it allows the system to stay intact, whereas the motherboard would have to have been removed previously. Second of all is the cable management system which allows all the system cables to be routed out of sight and out of the line of airflow to keep the system airflow at an optimum level.

On the other side there’s plenty of room to keep all the cables nestled neatly behind the motherboard tray.

At the top of the Define R2 sits two 120/140mm fan grills which are covered with Fractal Designs’ noise-reduction bitumen. If you would rather install a couple of fans here it’s as simple as removing the 8 screws and screwing the fans of your choice into place.

Moving down to the bottom of the Define R2 is the PSU mount which has been giving the sound dampening treatment also with four small feet for the PSU to rest on, and a line of dampening material where the PSU sit’s against the rear of the chassis. To the right of the PSU mount there is a 120mm/140mm fan mount which can easily be removed to accommodate PSUs larger than 220mm. The fan mount also features a washable dust filter.

On the next page we take a look at the Test Setup and Installation.
