Logitech has sat at the top of the heap when it comes to gaming peripherals, and it’s clear to see why. The Logitech G9 offers a surprising balance of function and comfort which not only improves general usage, but also adds a level of accuracy when it comes down to gaming. These days unless a gaming mouse can reach the magical 1ms response time many gamers will overlook it, so it’s good to see that the Logitech G9 easily surpassed the 1ms value making it a serious contender for gamers worldwide.
Bundled with the mouse was an array of useful items, which in unison provide an excellent platform for any serious gamer. The weighting system works extremely well and couldn’t be simpler to use. Although weights aren’t to everyone’s taste, many combinations can be chosen, or they can be left out altogether should you desire. Logitech’s decision to use removable grips with the G9 was a bold move, but one that has paid off. Not all users will be comfortable with a large wide grip, so the inclusion of a narrower precision grip will appeal to those with smaller hands.
Possibly the most useful feature of the mouse is the automatic profile switching when applications are launched. Once configured in the Setpoint software the G9 will switch to the gaming profile should you launch a game or to the productivity profile when using Microsoft Word etc. This removes the necessity for lifting the mouse and using the profile button on the underside which would no doubt become laborious each time you want to sit down for a gaming session.
The overall presentation of the G9 is hard to beat. Build quality is superb and the mouse feels solid and well constructed in hand. The contours of the G9 take a little getting used to, but after a few hours it will start to feel normal and switching back to your previous mouse will be nigh on impossible, as it feels like your hand has been violated in some way. If you are looking for an all round high performance gaming mouse the Logitech G9 is hard to beat, especially considering it can be had for as little as £36 delivered from Dell, which is a steal as it retails for much more on some of the popular hardware retailers.
Pros:
Excellent build quality
Sleeved USB cable
Effective weight system
Quick DPI switching
Automatic profile switching
LED indicator
Grips for user comfort
Cons: Shape takes a while to get fully used to
